South Lanarkshire Council turned to Alwitra and their world renowned Evalon® V roofing membrane for the refurbishment of a unique and visually striking parabolic arched roof in East Kilbride. Built in 1968, the stunning Dollan Aqua Centre was in need of a major overhaul and with the 104 metre long roof a significant architectural feature of this £7 million restoration project, the owner wanted a replacement that was waterproof, long lasting but also in keeping with the Historic Scotland Grade A listed status.
In total, 2,000 square metres of Evalon® V in dark grey was used by specialist contractor CLM Roofing of Glasgow with the increased workability of the membrane ensuring detailed work, including the tricky listed elements. Like a colossal marquee, the immense roof is divided into four ribs, arched at the side, which splay out into diagonal concrete buttresses.
