Evalon sets the stage at London theatre
The stage of the Royal Court Theatre in London provided an unusual setting for the application of the Evalonᆴ V single ply membrane, a proven and reliable waterproofing system which was more than fit for a leading role in the creation of a stunning new set.
For the production of Birdland, the award winning set designer Ian MacNeil required a moat around the stage set which could contain approximately 7000 litres of water as well as a sump and numerous inlet pipes. With an island in the centre, water would slowly be pumped into the moat throughout the performance and rise steadily as the play progresses.
To achieve the desired aesthetics whilst ensuring the cast and trap room below the stage remains completely dry, approximately 70 square metres of Evalon® V was installed by specialist contractor JH Roofing to the plywood deck due to its workability and long lasting performance. The liquid applied Mariseal 250 was then used to seal the inlet pipes to create a 100% watertight seal.
Alwitra Evalon® V is just one product in a wide portfolio of highly engineered products making up ICB’s Ultimate Roofing System. This includes fine quality flashings, edge trims, roof lights, rainwater outlets and every component for extensive or intensive green roofs. Every ICB roof is protected by a comprehensive guarantee that gives cover for up to twenty years.
With ICB and Evalon ‘treading the boards’ at this famous theatre, they have ensured this unusual structure has a 100% watertight seal whilst at the same time making a significant contribution to the overall aesthetic appearance of the set design.
