ICB’s Barrial installation breaks UK record ahead of Commonwealth Games
ICB has supplied nearly 300lm of the Barrial aluminium roof safety system at the ᆪ70 million redevelopment of 185-221 Buchanan Street, Glasgow. Welcoming over 90 million shoppers every year, the prime retail spot is being developed as part of the city’s regeneration in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Working with developer Land Securities, main contractor Balfour Beatty has created a vibrant 50,000m2 retail and residential hub including nine retail units and 49 apartments. To provide safe rooftop access for contractors during construction and the building’s residents once complete, fabrication specialists M&S Engineering turned to the quick and easy installation of Barrial - the ultimate roof safety system.
Available as part of either a fixed, freestanding or folding comprehensive solution for rooftops, ICB demonstrated the Barrial’s system outstanding versatility at Buchanan Street.
Supplying safety rails to prestigious projects since 1999, Barrial offered the perfect solution having met all safety requirements in the UK and Europe. ICB’s Quality Control Inspectors also carried out regular inspections to ensure the flagship development met stringent safety standards.
The refurbishment will see the opening of several new facilities, including two large department stores, restaurants, cafes, shops and apartments, in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
“As there is very little availability of well configured space in the right location, we are capitalising on this demand and will bring more national and international fashion brands to Buchanan Street in the coming months” commented Land Securities Development Director, Nick Davis.
